Glorious!

Just glorious! It has been a very, very, very, nasty long time since I went out and just bought a huge stack of books. Luck for my starving shelves (NOT!) the local Anglican church had their yearly book sale this week.

As I entered their fellowship hall Saturday, I was greeted by the sight of about 16 to 20 tables piled high with fiction hardbacks. I’d say 99% of them were in excellent condition. Off to the side were all kinds of genres; travel, spirituality, nonfiction, children, DVDs, even coffee table books. Not to mention a whole other ROOM full of tradepaper backs and yet ANOTHER room full of mass market. I never made it to that room.

There were a lot of Patricia Cornwell. Some Nora Roberts and JD Robb. Of course. Lots of Jan Karon and John Grisham too. But tucked in the little nooks and crannies were some treasures. I did SO good. I only spent $32 and got some books I have been dying to buy, some for years!

Wanna see? Cause you know I took a picture!

all the glorious book loot

You can click on it to see it bigger. Isn’t it huge? Here is what I got:

Secrets of the Flesh: A Life of Colette by Judith Thurman. I’ve never read any Colette, but I have long wanted too. She sounds fascinating, just from reading the jacket.

Where God Was Born by Bruce Feiler. I read Feilers’ Walking the Bible and loved it. I hope this is equally as good.

Mayflower by Nathan Philbrick. I am a total history buff, thanks to my grandmother’s influence. She was fascinated by history, all history, and she passed that on to me. I haven’t be reading as much history type stuff lately as I used to and I need to remedy that. I’ve been wanting this one since it came out so I snapped it up as soon as I saw it. Luckily it’s a nice copy.

The Year of Living Biblically by AJ Jacobs. I just finished Jacobs’ The Know-It-All not to long ago and knew I had to read this one too. Another excellent copy.

Empress by Shan Sa. The only one I got that I hadn’t heard of before. It has a beautiful cover and interesting subject. So I got it.

A Kiss from Maddalena by Christopher Castellani. I remember thinking this one sounded good back when it first came out. I checked it out from the library a couple of times, but never got around to reading it. Hopefully I will now :)

The Last Summer of Me and You by Ann Brashares.  I liked her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, so I thought it’d be interesting to see what she does with more adult fare.

Monday Mourning by Kathy Reichs.  So, I like the TV show Bones.  No, it’s more like love.  Since it’s based on Reichs life and books, I thought I’d try one out.

Bella Tuscany by Frances Mayes.  More living vicariously.

Broken for You by Stephanie Kallos.  I liked the title and, if I remember correctly, Iliana liked it.

Almost French by Sarah Turnbull.  Even more living vicariously.

Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris.   He’s from NC like me and I’ve seen so many good reviews!

So there you have it.    I need to do that more often!

I love Bones too!! That last episode with the baby was sooo adorable. Booth is even hotter now, since he changes diapers! :D

Oh right…I’m a book blogger….that’s an awesome pile of books you’ve got there! I thought my local library sale was only annually, in August, but I just decided to look it up and double-check, and there’s one in two weeks! Yay!!

I just tagged you for a 6 meme, Heather. Don’t feel obligated, but I don’t think I’ve tagged you before, so I figured it was your turn. ;)

Kathy Reichs’ books are every bit as much fun as the TV show. Probably more so.

I think I will too Andi! I’m thinking of taking it to the beach in July.

Nancy! Thanks for the tag! I will try to get to it tomorrow. I have to think of 6 things to share.

I’m glad to hear that Stu. I think it may be going with me to the beach in July too. And hopefully some more. I’m going to check out the used book store for more by her. And maybe Bookmooch too!
