More Geekery
and a little filling in:
1. There is absolutely NO way you can get me to jump from anywhere HIGH!
2. The humidity outside reminds me that summer is almost here!
3. I cannot live without my babies.
4. Being more organized and be less of a packrat are two things I’d like to try.
5. When life hands you lemons make lemonade for your kidney stone prone hubby.
6. Reading with my Mama is my favorite childhood memory.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to reading and re-watching Bones, tomorrow my plans include getting the car work done (tires, oil, and inspection due!) and Sunday, I want to read and take pictures!
As for the geekery, this weeks challenge was:
This week’s theme comes from Samantha, who suggested that one week we all write about our fond memories of childhood books.
As I’ve read all the posts this week, something really stuck out for me. When I was a kid, I really LOVED reading those old Choose Your Own Adventure books. Do you remember those? This one, pictured over there, is one that really seems to stand out in my memory. Well, I remember some details, like Odin was a character and that I read it over and over and over again. They were such great fun.
Other childhood favorites were definitely The Chronicles of Narnia. I read those until they literally fell apart. I went through 2 sets of them. I finally bought the hardcover as an adult and my sis-in-law got the audio version for me one year, for Christmas. Which reminds me…I think I’m due a reread.
I also read the Little House on the Prairie books to pieces. I still have my original set and they are gorgeously tattered and well loved. I wish I had a picture to post of them! After my father died, when I was 8, his doctor and my grandmother’s employer, donate a complete set of them, in hardback, to my elementary school library. I wonder if they are still there…

I wish I still had my Little House on the Prairie books.
I’d like to try being more organized too but it’s perhaps wishful thinking. Have a good weekend!
I read those Narnia books like crazy too. I remember buying an extra copy of Voyage of the Dawn Treader at a school book fair, even though I already owned a copy and I could have bought a book I hadn’t already read. But I felt like I should have a backup copy in case anything happened to the first one. I wish I was as good about backing up my hard drive.
I still have my choose your own adventure book, The Mystery of Chimeny Rock - now my six year old likes it!
I’ve been hoping that someone would mention the Choose Your Own Adventure book, because I forgot! I used to do the CYOA thing through the book, and then I would read it straight through, just in case I had missed anything! Didn’t make any sense when you read it like that but it was still part of the adventure of reading one of those books!
I’m with Marg on this one - I loved these books but forgot to mention them in my own post. I wish I could remember the ones I liked best, but nothing stands out. Thanks for posting these. And the Chronicles - still my all-time favorites.
A quick flick through my bookcase has turned up one of the choose your own adventure books, The Horror of High Ridge. I’d forgotten it was there.
I plan to read Prince Caspian because I really want to see the movie… no idea when I will get there because my work schedule and life are so hectic lately, but it’s a dream. I would rather watch it in theatres than rent it… I even have tracked down the person I am dragging along to it. I just need to find time to go! I never read the Choose Your Own Adventure books, but my sister used to. They never really interested me.
I remember the Choose Your Own Adventure books well. My favorite was a Star Wars related one…big surprise there! They were a really fun idea.
Loved your answer to #4…I wish those things, too! Thanks for playing
