1. Who’s your all-time favorite author, and why?
Oh my gosh. This is so hard. I mean, do you have any idea how many favorite authors I have? And what is the criteria for a ‘favorite author’? Do you go by how much you enjoyed a single novel or the author’s entire oeuvre? Can you call an author your favorite, if you’ve only read one book by them? Because if that is the case, I say William Goldman in a heartbeat, because The Princess Bride remains my all-time-favorite book. However, if you go by how many books I’ve read by one author, that distinction would probably go to Joanne Harris. Her books are hit or miss with me, but I’ve almost read everything she’s written. I still have to read her new one and I can’t wait to get my hands on it since it’s the sequel to Chocolat. My favorites by her remain Blackberry Wine and Sleep, Pale Sister.
2. Who was your first favorite author, and why? Do you still consider him or her among your favorites?
Laura Ingalls Wilder, which I think I’ve explained before. She got me through a very rough patch in my life and I read all of her books to absolute pieces. And I still own all those pieces.
3. Who’s the most recent addition to your list of favorite authors, and why?
Hmmm….there is so many. Most recent would probably be Barbara Kingsolver, at least for her nonfiction. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle has really started to change my life, in a very good way.
4. If someone asked you who your favorite authors were right now, which authors would first pop out of your mouth? Are there any you’d add on a moment of further reflection?
Goodness. A bunch! William Goldman, Joanne Harris, JK Rowling, Libba Bray, Anthony Bourdain, Barbara Kingsolver (for her nonfiction, anyway), Stephenie Meyer, Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas, Jane Austen, and Bill Willingham, would all make the list. And I’m sure some more would too, if I had more time to think.

Oh, I’ve been tagged. Why, thank you, Heather! That was fun reading. I’m sure I’ve mentioned my love of The Princess Bride to you. I’ve got a trilogy by William Goldman that I haven’t gotten to. Probably ought to fix that.

The Princess Bride is such a great novel. I can see why it would be one of your favorites. Joanne Harris is an author on my must read list, but I haven’t yet gotten to her yet. Someday!

So far the only book I did not love by Joanne Harris was Holy Fools - I had to force myself through it. But I have a copy of her latest and am looking forward to it! I’m going to reread Chocolat first, though.

Hi Heather, thanks for the tag, which I only just discovered today. I did this practically impossible meme (one favorite author? c’mon!) recently. My post is here.
